Intent:
To determine whether the person has a history of falling, which is an important factor in assessing the person's risk of
future falls or injuries. Persons who have sustained at least one fall are at risk of future falls. Falls are a common cause of morbidity and mortality among persons receiving home care. Serious injury results from 6 to 10 percent of falls, with hip fractures accounting for approximately one-half of all serious injuries.
Definition:
Any unintentional change in position where the person ends up on the floor, ground, or other lower level; includes falls that occur while being assisted by others.
